We have been hunting for a new camper/trailer to replace Freddie, which had fallen on hard times. It had issues I won't bore you with and had been sitting for over a year without being used, due to Alan's prolonged recovery. Alan is well enough now that we are ready to do some more serious traveling. So after months of research and going to travel shows, we settled on a Lance 1995. (The floor area is 19'. Including tongue, etc. it is 23') It is supposed to be the best-made trailer on the market. Alan could tell you about the construction, but I don't remember. It has things that we really wanted: a built in backup camera; slide 4-person dinette area; solar panel on roof; ladder on back; four-season package, so we can take it places that get cold, and since we are getting old--power everything: jack, stabilizers, awning, etc. We expect that this will be the trailer that we will use for as long as we are able to travel.
We had to go to Hickory, N.C. to get it, because there is no local dealer. They gave us a great trade-in on Freddie (almost as much as we paid for it years ago).

The front compartment has a slide-out storage area-- no more crawling to the center of the trailer to get things out. |

Alan happily moving things from Freddie (on right) to new trailer in parking lot of dealer. They let us spend the night in their lot to make sure everything was OK before we left. |
In order to check it out not far from the dealer, we went to a commercial campground nearby for the weekend. All went well.

How it looks with awning deployed Because of really changeable spring weather, we used the air conditioner one day and the heat the next! Both work great. |
If you want to see pictures of the interior, it is best to go to the website. They have a nice 360 degree view. We did not get the same interior for the dinette that is shown. We got Roadster, which is a solid dark brown pleather. We also got the walk-around bed, not the Murphy bed. There is a lot of storage space under the bed and in big slide-out drawers under the dinette seats.
So far, we've not come up with a name for it. Alan at first thought we would use RAS for Rhoda Alan Shelby, but I could never pronounce it with the proper Rastafarian twist, so that is out. Just calling it "Lance" is too mundane. But something will come. Suggestions are welcome.
Our first longer trip will be to do the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville to Vicksburg. We'll leave March 7 or 8. There are a lot of interesting historical things to do as side trips, so we will be gone for several weeks. We are going to take our time and not make reservations--stop when we want to and stay as long as we want to. I have been working like mad to get a lot of Imagination Library things finished, so we can be gone for close to a month if we want to.
Alan is determined that Shelby our cat will travel with us now. We shall see how that works. First, we have to find a way to get her to accept a halter, so she can go outside with us. So far, she has fought that with great ferocity. Here at home, she goes in and out whenever she wants to without supervision, but that can't happen at a campground or when we are on the road. We have to be able to walk her like a dog.

Nice trailer...and here I thought that beautiful cat came with the trailer as a 'come on' gift if you purchased one! ;^) The Natchez Trace should be interesting. I've thought of riding it some time, but the older I get the less likely that is. Ah well.
congrats, it's beautiful
