New England travel suggestions?

I am starting to plan our trip to New England during the month of September.  Right now, we are thinking of going up the coast, as far as Acadia, then back down though the central area of New England, or maybe going over to Quebec to circle back home. We've been to the more touristy places in Vermont and New Hampshire several times, so probably won't go back there.  Because of trips that I have done alone in the past, I know that we will want to do Acadia, Cape Cod, Camden Hills State Park, probably Newport and Plymouth.  Maybe Boston, if we can find a spot to leave the trailer in the outskirts and take public transportation.

Do any of you have any suggestions of places to go that you enjoyed?  Phyllis says the Mark Twain House is good.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip. My pediatric nursing colleagues (a group of 8 women) are planning a week long trip to Maine next summer. We looked at Bar Harbor. Will be interested in your plans and adventures. Have fun!!!!

Lots of historic stuff around Boston worth seeing. Also the best Lobster we ever ate along with a neat harbor view boat trip was to be gotten at Portland, Maine. And in Portland down not too far from the harbor was a dinky little restaurant famous for its seafood chowder that was NOT to be missed! There's also a Shipbuilding corporation North of Portland some miles in a small town where they were still building U.S.N. Destroyers that was interesting as all get out.

We were just at the Frederick Church house this past week. It's an eccentric and lavish mansion with an amazing Hudson view, now run by New York state. Not quite New England, but it might be on your way depending on your route.

I've heard of the Mark Twain House and it sounds great. I hope we can make it there some time.

Enjoy the trip. Since we're in NYC be sure to wave to us as you pass. :)
