Granny's china

Alan and I were cleaning out stuff from the crawl spaces under the house today, and I came across a box of china I had forgotten about.  There is an interesting story related to the china:  When my grandmother Bliese died, my parents went to Texas to go through my grandparents' things, and they came back with this small set of china.  My mother solemnly gave it to me to put in my "hope chest" for when I got married.  It was presented to me as a great gift, one that should be treasured.  I assumed that it had great value, as a consequence.

When I went to my first job and apartment in Cincinnati when I graduated from UK, I used it, although I was always concerned that I would break these valuable dishes.  As soon as I could afford others, I packed them away for safekeeping.  However, one day I was in Murphy's, which was like a Woolworth's store, and I was surprised to find that my grandmother's "valuable" china actually came from a five and ten cent store.    I got a big laugh out of it.

For sentimental reasons, I have hauled them all over the country for all these years. However, enough is enough.  If anyone wants Granny's china, you can have it.  Bliese kin who live elsewhere can claim it, and I will save until I see you again. It is Homer Laughlin wild rose pattern.

If no one asks for it by 10 a.m. on Saturday, it is going into the moving sale we are having.  Local folks are welcome to stop by to see the stuff we are selling.  It is a hodgepodge of things, including some furniture.  The sale is from 10 - 6.

We close on the Johnson City house on Monday. The movers come on Tuesday.  I will send out an e-mail with our new address.

Note on 6/7:  My niece Jeanne has claimed Granny's china, so it will stay in the family.
