How we are dealing with Covid-19

  1. We are making rational decisions:  We decided to cancel our month-long trailer trip to SC and Florida, which was supposed to start today.  It made sense, given our age and that Alan may (or may not) be at greater risk because of having had aspiration pneumonia and being on a ventilator three years ago.  I just heard from my brother in Port Charlotte, whom we were going to visit, and he said everything is closing down there anyway.
  2. We are doing social distancing, only going places where we can stay a reasonable distance from folks:  I stocked up on food before the panic buying set in a few days ago. Right now, there is only one verified local case, someone who is older and recently did international travel.  However, given the lack of testing to date, who can really say? It just makes sense to be prudent.  We are lucky that we are both retired.  It makes it easier for us.  Frankly, there is a cozy sense of home as haven, sort of like being snowed in, but the power is still on.
  3. Hand washing and using Clorox wipes are now a constant part of our lives.  I've been carrying a bandanna in my purse and using it to open doors and drape on the handle of the grocery cart, (after using the wipes at the store, of course).  Basically, to put a barrier between me and anything that has been touched by the general public.
  4. I still have a "boot" on my left foot from a stress fracture I got on the treadmill at the gym:  I should have known better than to wear crappy old tennis shoes!  I have had it for a month, but will transition off of it over the next few weeks.  In the meantime, Alan lets me out at the door when we go places, which is starting to be very nice!
  5. Work on renovations continues:  The new lighting in the great room will be installed on Tuesday.  The large entertainment center for the den is being built and will be ready in a week or two. (It will contain needed bookshelves, storage cabinets, and room for a 75" TV.  We envision having movie nights on a regular basis, once the virus has moved on.) We have finally settled on colors for painting the interior, and the painter will begin work at the end of the month.  Once that is done, we are going to take a break and just enjoy it for a while!
  6. The first spring in our new home has been great:  It has been fun to watch what is coming up and blooming that the former owners planted.  I have been thinking and planning about what to do to make it even nicer in the future.  There is a lot of spring yard work to do, especially renewing all the mulch of the perennials in the yard, so that will keep us busy.
