Boondocking at Davidson River Campground, near Brevard, NC: May 2 - 8, 2021

Our trailer is self-contained, meaning that we can go many days without hooking up to electricity.  It has solar panels on the roof that charge the batteries and large holding tanks for fresh and waste water.  Because we have that capacity, we like to go to campgrounds in national forests and national parks, where the amenities are limited but the scenery and hiking are much better.  For this trip, we went to Davidson River, a national forest campground in the Pisgah National Forest, near the lovely town of Brevard, NC.

The first two days it poured rain, an absolute deluge with thunderstorms, but we were cozy.  We always bring books and games.  As soon as it stopped raining, we set out for Dupont State Forest, were there are wonderful waterfalls.  We knew the rain would make them spectacular, and we weren't disappointed.

The ranger gave us several good suggestions for wildflower hikes.  We took the North Slope Trail and the Pink Beds Loop.  We had more of an adventure than expected on the Pink Beds Loop because of faulty maps, but it worked out OK--just added some miles and confusion to the hike.  From now on, we will download Alltrails maps to one of our phones!

Lots of Foamflowers

We also saw some really interesting and pretty fungi, but I don't know what they are.  If any readers know, please comment.

I called this the roasted marshmallow fungus.

I called this the fried egg fungus.

Shelby did well in the trailer, as usual.  She likes hiding and sleeping in her nook.

Dolores and I were in a different campground years ago and also had a very heavy rain of a couple of days, so we have photos of the same falls. It was an awesome time we enjoyed ir as you and Alan did.

Great pictures of flowers. Thanks for identifying them. The video of the falls was awesome.
