This and That

We took the decorations off the Christmas tree on Saturday. It is always too sad to see it go, so for the last two years, we have moved the undecorated tree to the deck next to the bird feeders. The birds enjoy using it as a staging area, and we like seeing our tree getting more than two weeks of use. As you can see, we still have snow on the ground, and more is predicted for tomorrow.

All the talk when you see people is about their experiences during our big snowstorm on Dec. 18. It took out power lines and caused havoc on the highways. Alan ended up spending the night at a motel in Johnson City because the interstate was closed. We saw our former neighbors David and Allison the other night, and Allison said that driving the next day was like showing up after the "rapture." Cars were abandoned helter-skelter, but all the people were gone.

I started my second big volunteer "job" today. I was elected to the board of the Sullivan County Imagination Library. If you aren't familiar with the Imagination Library, I will add a link below. Actually, they pretty much put anyone on the board who is willing to actively work with the group. They were particularly happy to find that I was willing to do fund-raising for them--something no one wants to do. It should be interesting, and allow me to get to know more people here in the Kingsport area. Because I went 37 miles north to MECC for 27 years, I really hadn't made many connections in Kingsport. I decided to do volunteer work that gets me more involved here, while I worked on things of meaning to me--in this case, getting books to children between the ages of 3 and 5.

I saw a great quote the other day that I want to remember. “Pursue progress, not perfection.” Dr. Pam Peeke

Rhoda,
Love the photo!
Another book for you is The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton. This book and The Help both have a writing theme. Let me know if you enjoy them.

I will have to wait a while for The Help. I went to our library site, and there were 30 "holds" for it. Apparently, it is a very popular book. I'll check on The Wednesday Sisters. Thanks for the info and response.
