Charlotte reminded me that I would talk about the books I am reading. I just finished two interesting ones. Both were from the "new books" section of the Kingsport Public Library.
1. Last Night in Twisted River, by John Irving
It was typical John Irving—complicated plot, dead children, amputated hands, lots of talk about the writing process. It was interesting, however, and I enjoyed reading it. Frankly, it wasn't as good as A Prayer for Owen Meany--my all-time favorite Irving book. If you haven't read it, start with that.
Quote I liked: P. 552 “Sometimes, people fall into our lives cleanly—as if out of the sky, or as if there were a direct flight from Heaven to Earth—the same sudden way we lose people, who once seemed they would always be part of our lives.”
2. No One Would Listen: A True Financial Thriller, by Harry Markopolos, the Madoff Whistleblower
This was a scarily interesting true account of how Markopolos tried to warn the SEC about Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.

I appreciate your recommendations for books. I am currently reading "A Promise of Spring" by Kim Vogel Sawyer. It is set in Kansas in the late 1800s. It really gives you an idea of what life was like in those days.

Did you finish PrairyErth? It is one of my favorite books. My copy, which I had extensively highlighted and commented on in the margins, has disappeared. I wish I knew what I did with it!
