Edisto Island, SC Sept. 7 - 15, 2013

Alan and I just got back from a fantastic week at a condo at Edisto Island, SC.  We were joined by Alan's sister Susie and her husband Ed.  It was wonderful to spend time with them at a fun and beautiful place.  We played in the Atlantic, ate fresh seafood almost every day, rode bicycles on trails at Edisto Beach State Park, did a really interesting auto tour/beach-walk at Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve, watched the sunset and dolphins playing several evenings, as well as enjoyed the amenities at the Wyndham complex where we were staying.  On a previous trip to Edisto, we had done one of the historic van tours, which was very interesting. There are many old plantation houses and historic churches that you can only see on the tours, so I would really recommend doing that also if you go to Edisto.

This is a SC wildlife refuge next to the ocean.
It was our favorite place at Edisto.

We saw lots of egrets, but not many other marsh birds.
As we were leaving the island, a bald eagle flew over the truck.  It was really exciting to see.
Alan and Ed visited the Serpentarium, but most of you will by happy to know that none of the snake pictures turned out.
Susie and I did a lot of playing in the surf and walking on the beach.

We leave for a week in the Poconos in PA at the Shawnee Village Resort with my sister Rosie and her husband Ralph. Then, we go to see historic sites in Philadelphia and spend several days in DC visiting family and friends.  If any of you have suggestions of places to visit, things to do in the Poconos, please let me know.  We've not been there before and always like to hear what others have done in an area we are to visit.

All the above plans were made before we bought the trailer, which is in storage until we get back. After that, we will probably take some short trips around here with the trailer.  We are thinking of doing some of the Blue Ridge Parkway, which should be beautiful in the fall.
