March 2014

  • I was able to represent the Sullivan County Imagination Library on TV a couple of times recently, once on an event that was covered on the news, and another on a local interview show called "A Closer Look."  That was my first longer TV appearance, about 1/2 an hour, so I was nervous, but it actually turned out fairly well.  It was shown three times last weekend on two of our local stations.

  • We are planning for our first longer trip with the trailer at the end of March and the first two weeks in April.  First, we go to an RV driving school for two days in Columbus, North Carolina, something that many of the books we read had recommended.  Then, we are going to three places in South Carolina:  Kings Mountain State Park; Huntington Beach State Park at Murrells Inlet, south of Myrtle Beach near Pawleys Island; and the Buck Hall Recreation Area in the Frances Marion National Forest, north of Charleston.  The recreation area is next to the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.  We are hoping to enjoy warmer temperatures and see lots of shore birds and wildlife.  The Atlantic will be too cold for swimming, but beach walking will certainly be in order.
  • I do have some questions to ask of you:

  • If you have been to those areas and have suggestions for things to do, let me know.  We will probably not go into Charleston or Myrtle Beach, as we have been to both, but are interested in sights in the area where we will be staying.

  • We recently got Smartphones, so if you know of any good travel, sightseeing aps (apps?) that run on Android phones, let me know.

    • Here are websites if you are interested in finding out more about where we are going:

    • We are starting to have spring weather.  The crocus in our back yard were beautiful for several weeks.  Now, the hellebores and daffodils are starting to bloom.
