Memorial Day Memory: Elroy, Wisconsin, about 1950:
Every year, little Elroy, Wisconsin had a Memorial Day parade. I'm not sure now who was involved, but I remember proudly participating. I was in my Brownie uniform, marching with the other Brownies. We all carried flowers picked from our yards. I carried beautiful, fragrant lilacs from a large bush in back of the parsonage. The parade route went down Main Street and up Second Main past our house and out to the city cemetery, which was at the top of the hill. There we placed our flowers on the graves that had flags next to the markers.
Today we fly a flag in honor of those who gave their lives. So many for so long.
Next weekend we will be in Washington, DC. I am going to visit one of my longtime friends, Sue, who has now moved to assisted living due to many issues. Alan is going to be a part of the Reason Rally 2016. If you want to know what that is, here is a link: http://reasonrally.org/. We are proud to be in a country where all people of whatever religion, or no religion, can rally in our nation's capital to support a cause that is important to them.

Good Show! Hope all turns out well with Sue and that she has good caretakers (no gods need apply...they do, from my experience, absolutely nothing...or, as the old but apparently true saying has it, "Nothing fails like prayer"...probably because, as the evidence indicates, there's nothing up or out there but space and the universe, despite the religiosi's fallacious claims to the contrary, given the lack of evidence for deities.) And congrats to Alan for attendance at the Reason Rally!!! Hope he has a great and effective time!!
