Alan update 4/19/17

Alan started breathing on his own this morning, so they took him off the ventilator.  He made the transition with little difficulty, which was great.  However, he is still extremely ill with the aspiration pneumonia, has fluid around his lungs, and blood pressure issues. Because of the swallowing difficulties he has had since the surgery, he can't have anything by mouth until there is a swallow test.  Hopefully, he will be alert enough to have that tomorrow.  That will determine what he can have by mouth, if anything.  So there is some progress, but as the pulmonary doctor said, "Don't get overconfident.  We aren't out of the woods yet."

A move in the right direction is certainly a welcome relief! Glad to hear Alan's again able to breathe on his own! Hope the swallowing test goes well, and they can get the fluid off the lungs. After all this, those darn headaches should sure stay away!
