good news

Alan is now off in-home pt and nursing.  He is still getting in-home swallowing/speech therapy twice a week.  He will probably transition to outpatient for that around the first of August.  His swallowing ability has progressed so much that he can now eat almost anything he would like--including crisp bacon and fried chicken at a Shoney's buffet last Sunday.  We haven't been to Chop House for the celebratory steak, yet, but that will probably come soon.  The peg tube in his stomach will be removed as an outpatient at the hospital on July 27th. He hasn't used it in several weeks. His voice is still very hoarse, but it is getting much better, also. You can understand him when he talks on the telephone.  His energy level and endurance are much improved, although certainly not back to where he was before the surgery.

I will meet my sister Rosemary in Logan, Ohio next week for our annual sisters time together. Logan is near Hocking Hills State Park and some other attractions that should be fun to visit. Hocking Hills State Park website.  Alan's sister Charlotte will be here with Alan since he still hasn't been cleared to drive.  He will enjoy having "sister" time, too.

Great news, indeed! Give Alan our congratulations on his recovery, and compliments to you both for the courage, determination, and stamina to deal with and get through a very tough situation!

Rosemary's looking forward to the Hocking Hills get together next week...She even has her Garmin all set up...and I didn't have to help either!
