We got our dream home!!
We are so excited! We signed a contract for a wonderful home in Johnson City this evening. All the major living space is on one level, with open concept kitchen, dining, and living room. There are incredible other spaces, also: huge den, large downstairs that we will use as guest quarters, two screened in porches, a sun room, numerous decks, and a small three-person floating pool. The house is on a lovely lot, with lots of perennial landscaping that the owner was very proud of. See pix at this link: The pix were taken by owner with cell phone, so they aren't great, but you can get the idea:
It was for sale by owner, and they didn't want to show it until an open house today. However, I convinced her to let us have a private showing yesterday afternoon. We really wanted the house, so we used the time after the showing to chat. Alan made friends with Danny in the basement, finding out that they both were raised in Greenacres (a subdivision in Kingsport) and had the same 3rd grade teacher. I had a good chat with the woman, answering any questions she had about us. This afternoon I sent pictures of the perennials in our present yard, so she would know that we loved them and knew how to take care of them.
They accepted our full asking price offer this evening, even though they had a higher offer from someone who put a lot of contingencies on the offer. Danny said that he'd rather sell to people from Kingsport, so Alan and I did a great PR job selling ourselves to them, if I say so myself.
This is a wonderful place for entertaining, but we will need to get more furniture to fill up all the extra space! It has l,200 more square feet than our present house.
We close and will move there in mid-June.
And now, to the champagne!
