Lost in Translation

I was looking at the classified section of the Johnson City Press today and came across a puzzling ad in the clothing section:

For Sale
Old Chiffon Robe
$50

I thought, "Why would an old chiffon robe be so expensive? Why would anyone sell an old chiffon robe, anyway?"  Then it came to me.  Mountain people often call a high chest a "shifforobe." ( Wikipedia says it is a closet-like piece of furniture: chifforobe.) Obviously, the classified ad person at the newspaper hadn't had contact with mountain dialect so had never heard the term--deciding it was clothing.  Apparently, it is a southern, not just mountain term, though.  It is used several times in To Kill a Mockingbird.  I've lived in the South all my adult life, but I never heard the term until I moved to Southwest Virginia.  At any rate, I got a chuckle out of this, and thought you might, also.
