Alan is doing much better. He is still in ICU, but the pneumonia progress is good. It is not resolved, though. He is working with the swallowing therapist, who now has him on sips of ice water and some specialized exercises for his swallowing muscles. He still has the feeding tube, and will for some time, yet. However, he is feeling much better, is more alert and lucid, and spent a lot of time out of bed in a chair today. He has been enjoying the care given by his sisters, who are spelling me on his care as much as they are able, since they don't live in Kingsport. Another friend who is a retired nurse has been helping out also.
Basically, what I am saying is that things are moving forward, albeit at a slow pace. Alan is very motivated and cooperative with the therapies because he wants to get well. Being so helpless has been very difficult for him, as it would for any of us. I expect that he will be in ICU for several more days, before being moved to a regular hospital room. I don't know how long we are talking about.
I won't put a message in my blog as frequently, now that we are moving forward on a slow mend. I'll just write when there is something of note to report.
Thank you again for all the wonderful support you have given. Also thanks to all of you who have volunteered to help in whatever way you can. Right now, I don't need help because everything revolves around the hospital, and I am there so much of the time. After Alan gets home may be when I will call on those of you who have volunteered.
