Thank you!

A sincere thank you to everyone who responded with suggestions for our trip.  We are looking at each of them to see if they will fit in with our interests, timetable, and itinerary.  You have been wonderful!

Note on Ralph's entry:  Due to security restrictions, you can no longer tour inside the shipbuilding company near Portland that he referred to (Bath Iron Works).  There is a bus tour that drives by, with a knowledgeable tour guide.

It's too bad about the security closure of the Bath Shipbuilding works. A drive by and wave with description might help, but would certainly not be the same as seeing the slips, shops, and vessels under construction.

They were building U.S. Navy Destroyers when we were there...When we went to Seattle, WA, there was, across the bay from Seattle a Naval historical location with a WWII DDE docked one could go aboard and go anywhere one wanted. Boy was there a difference between the crews' quarters and the captain's 'cabin!' All the crew had were bunks with a locker beneath for one's belongings, while the capt. had a bedroom, bathroom, and sitting room with a conference table no less. The engine room was complexity in spades! Neat though!
