Easter/Birthday Weekend

We decided to go camping in the Smokies over Easter weekend. It was also our birthday and the height of wildflower season. (For those who don't know, Alan and I share the same birthday, but it is different years.) On Saturday our friend John came from Knoxville to hike and look at wildflowers with us. The trails we took went through the ruins of the old Elkmont community. It has many old summer houses that have been abandoned since the area became part of the National Park Service, so it was really interesting. On Sunday we did a beautiful hike on the Middle Prong Trail. All in all, we had a wonderful Friday through Monday there, getting back before the bad weather hit the South.

Alan accidentally caught a wonderful reflection when he was taking a picture of one of the
abandoned summer houses.

The only other wildlife we saw was a bear as we were leaving the park on the
Gatlinburg Bypass.
